Developing the skills of the future

With the rapid advancements in technology – including quantum computing – students need to prepare for a new set of skills that will be required in the very near future. Skills that will drive innovation and digital transformation.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects are at the centre of this change, and a key focus for education in Australia. With the Australian Government providing significant funding to support a range of education projects to improve STEM outcomes for school students.

The team at CQC²T, led by Prof Michelle Simmons, understand just how important STEM skills are – with physicists and engineers working together with the goal of developing the first quantum computer.

There are many STEM resources available across Australia to get students started. We have pulled together some if these resources – including coding courses and National Science Week programs to provide an introduction to the basics of STEM. At CQC²T we also host students through our outreach programs at our partner universities across Australia. See below for more details:

National Science Week:

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology, and great way to engage students in STEM. Held in August each year, it features thousands of events and activities hosted around Australia and online, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.

CQC²T Outreach Programs:

At CQC²T we recognise that seeing is believing and bringing students into our Centre and its impressive facilities will open their eyes to what is possible.  In 2018 we kicked off our inaugural CQC²T Open Day at UNSW Sydney to primary and high school students, and have opportunities to tour our facilities across our partner universities throughout the year.
